Code of Conduct
Section IX: Electronic devices
Students are not allowed to use personal electronic devices during the school day. This includes all phones (smartphones and basic phones), all devices that can connect to the internet, and any similar items.
Personal electronic devices, like cell phones, can be a big distraction. They can make it hard to pay attention in class and have a negative impact on learning. In an emergency, cell phones can also cause problems. They might block important emergency messages, keep students from hearing instructions from teachers or police, and even spread false information.
Upon entering the school, all devices will be turned off and put away for the entire school day.
In elementary schools, students must keep their devices out of reach – like in classroom or hallway cubbies.
Middle and high school students must keep their devices in locked pouches that they will carry with them throughout the day. At the end of the day, all students will have full use of their devices.
If a student breaks this rule, they must put the device away when asked. If they do not, the device will be taken and kept in a safe place. The student can get it back at the end of the school day, but may have to wait for staff to be available to assist. If a student breaks the rule again, they may face other consequences listed in the district’s Code of Conduct. However, students will not be suspended only for not following this rule.
Each school will have a way for parents/guardians to send and receive messages to and from students. For more details, including how to request an exemption, contact your child’s school.
Parents and guardians should keep the school updated if their contact information changes.
